Can I touch my kefir with metal utensils?Updated 2 years ago
Since kefir builds up quite a decent amount of organic acids during fermentation, it can actually attack and corrode some metals. In the process, potentially harmful components can also dissolve from the metal; this applies to aluminium, for example.
Fortunately, food-safe stainless steel is not attacked by the acid and may be used. It is therefore important to only bring the kefir into contact with metal utensils that you know for sure are made of stainless steel.
